Tozando, a bokken for aikido training.
Hokkaido oak, which grows vigorously, is one of the most prized materials in the manufacture of traditional training weapons. The winds and snowy winters of the cold northern regions make the tree dense and exceptionally durable – some trees can reach heights of up to 35 metres and live to be over 1,000 years old. The properties of oak have been thoroughly studied, and its strength, elasticity and balance make it an ideal material for wooden swords.
Each bokuto is carefully finished individually in the company’s own woodworking workshop by skilled craftsmen. The end result is not only robust, durable and moisture-resistant, but also aesthetically beautiful and balanced. The weight is neither too heavy nor too light, which makes the sword comfortable and manageable for training.
Designed specifically for Aikido training, this bokuto brings out all the best qualities of Hokkaido oak. The tip is shaped to be blunt for increased safety in pair training. The slightly longer than usual design provides an extra challenge for coordination, distance control and feel. Excellent weighting supports training cuts, develops balance and increases strength.
Size: 103 cm, weight about 550 g. An excellent choice for goal-oriented and safe aikido training.
