Description

The Tozando jo (4.21 shaku / 127.6 cm, 8 bu / 24.5 mm) is made from quality Hokkaido oak with respect for tradition. The jo has been part of Japanese budo for centuries, and besides aikido it is a key training weapon in many koryu sword schools. Its simple form hides deep training in technique, timing and distance.

The dimensions of the jo date back to the early 17th century, when Muso Gonnosuke faced Miyamoto Musashi. The length and thickness established from that history have remained part of the tradition, and the Tozando jo is made to these same strict standards. Its balanced construction supports correct movement, accurate strikes and smooth handling.

Hokkaido oak is a dense-grained, durable wood that feels solid yet lively in the hand. It stands up well to repeated training and keeps its shape with proper care. A careful finish gives a pleasant grip without being slippery.

Dimensions: overall length approx. 127.6 cm (4.21 shaku), diameter 8 bu (approx. 24.5 mm), average weight approx. 400 g. An excellent choice for focused jo training.
